About:
This project was created as a display piece to showcase the versatility of combining Cerakote finishes with laser imaging and removal techniques.
On one side of the knife, I applied a red-to-yellow gradient base coat to create a flame effect. At the base of the blade and handle, I used a shimmering aluminum finish that, when lasered, revealed a golden tone. Once the base was complete, the entire knife was coated in Graphite Black.
After curing, the black-only side was laser-etched to create a subtle grey ghosting effect. On the opposite side, the black layer was selectively removed with the laser to reveal the vibrant base beneath—forming the image of a golden dragon breathing fire along the blade.
To complete the piece, the sheath was hydro-dipped in a metallic dragon scale film, tying the entire theme together.
This knife demonstrates not only the creative freedom possible with Cerakote, but also the precision and artistry that laser work brings when paired with custom finishes.
